Recently, at Alamo Safeway, a man literally stopped me in my tracks. He was so well-dressed! Was he wearing a Disneyland t-shirt and jean shorts? NO. An oversized Hawaiian shirt and cargo shorts? Hardly. “Dad” jeans and a sports jersey? As if.
It was this guy, and his outfit is stellar:
When I told him I liked his outfit, his response was, “Of course…I’m European!” A few days later, I met this gentleman at my favorite breakfast joint in Pleasant Hill:
MmmHmm…looking good! And then, there was this man, minding his own business, walking down the street in Walnut Creek:
We chatted a bit, and he agreed that a well-dressed man is somewhat of a rarity in 2012.
So, when I was introduced to menswear company J. Hilburn, I was thrilled to learn that the “well-dressed man” is not only an attainable goal, but that it was a painless process. Let’s be real…most guys hate shopping. So, if you can bring the clothing to them, they will be happy, to say the least. I wanted to see how J. Hilburn worked, so I invited representative Melinda Malin to come to our home and measure my husband, Jeff, for a custom dress shirt (to start with). J. Hilburn is a 4-year-old company that specializes in custom, yet reasonably priced, men’s clothing–including dress shirts, slacks, sport coats and suits. Happy customer, Dave, (shown below) selected this suit/shirt/tie from J. Hilburn, and I think this outfit is outstanding, don’t you?
Jeff’s custom shirt is exactly what he’s looking for–fabric, collar style, cuff preferences, and of course, fit. If your guy is “hard to fit”, this company’s methods could be his answer. The grey/light blue window pane is the main part of the shirt, and the striped pattern will be on the inside of the collar and cuffs. Super cool!
We’re going old-school for this year’s Father’s Day gift. Remember giving your dad the obligatory shirt/tie every year as a kid? I do! So, if you’re wondering what Dad could use for Father’s Day, I have two ideas for you. ONE: a gift card for custom clothing at J. Hilburn and/or TWO: the “gift of style”–a consultation with ME! He’ll be happy with either, and you will see another well-dressed man around town. And that’s a beautiful thing!
