Diablo Women Fashion Show
Weigh in on your favorite looks hot off the runway from Diablo Women, a night of food, fashion, and fun.
By Kristen Haney
On Thursday night, volunteers strutted down the catwalk at the Diablo Women event, showing off 80s-inspired looks from local boutiques and shops. Head-turning ensembles included playful rompers, re-envisioned accent sleeves, and eye-catching outfits in sunny shades of neon.
Styled by Best of the East Bay winner Carolyn Rovner, the runway looks spanned the spectrum, ranging from flirty daytime outfits to sophisticated evening wear, all with an ‘80s spin (inspired by a performance from Center REPertory Company’s cast of Xanadu). Here are some of our favorite looks from the show, but make sure you let us know in the comments which ensembles you loved. And if you’re looking for the best ways to incorporate the ‘80s trend into your wardrobe, Rovner shares her tips here.
Rompers and strapless dresses:
For day, how would you work this romper from Plum? We’d love to see it with a floppy wide brimmed hat and pair of flats to keep it playful, but our model shows how to amp it up for evening with a pump.
Plum’s strapless tiered dress can transition from day to evening by swapping out a pair of embellished flats for sophisticated wedges. How would you accessorize this transitional piece? Other options include a bold lip, statement necklace, or shoulder-brushing earrings.
One of the easiest ways to stay on trend and freshen up your neutrals is to inject color into your wardrobe. This graphic black and white number from The Red Box gets a jolt of color from lemony yellow trim and a very statement hat in the same bright shade. Are you brave enough to attempt an electrifying hat?
If you’re looking for ways to bring color into the office, a sleek pencil skirt always looks classic, even when punched up in a sunny shade. Make sure it hits below the knee to keep it looking sophisticated, and pair the skirt with a sheer button down in a complimentary pattern to pull the look together. Not a yellow fan? Mint, cobalt, and poppy are all popular spring shades. Which would you choose?
An animal print top from Duchess can still appear adult when paired with a sleek black blazer. Keep the outfit from looking too “on the job” with a bright pair of cutoffs. Finish off the outfit with layered necklaces and beachy waves for a result that’s decidedly grown up but still fun enough for a girl’s brunch or weekend shopping excursion.
