For the 50+ woman, projecting her best personal style may be a struggle. The buzz is all about “anti-aging”…particularly in skincare and fashion. Well, I’m “pro-aging”! When you think about it…if you’re not aging, then you’re dead, right? The reality is that while you’re getting older, gravity is taking a toll, “muffin tops” are popping out, and a woman’s internal thermometer may be running on the warm (bordering on the hot and sweaty) side. So, let’s tweak our thinking a bit–perhaps less about looking young, and more about looking appropriate and relevant. Not a problem when the art of dressing a “grown-up” woman is mastered. Some Do’s and Don’ts to consider:
*Do combine trendy pieces (like knee-high boots) with a classic wardrobe, rather than piling trend on trend on trend. The result is a look that appears effortless. Let one item “lead the look”, so the result is sophisticated and stylish.
*Do wear thin layers to provide a relief, should the nasty hot flash creep up on you. For colder weather, add a lightweight sweater and a cotton scarf.
*Don’t wear a sleeveless dress without a jacket, cardigan or a wrap if you’re not comfortable with your upper arms. On the other hand, if you have suffered through a million tricep kickbacks, then show off your biceps proudly.
*Do wear a bra that supports “the girls”, and try shape wear that smoothes and creates a lean line through the mid-section (available at www.theperkylift.com). Seamless underwear or Spanx eliminate VPL (visible panty lines), and that is definitely the way to go.
*Don’t wear clothes that are too tight, short or revealing. Nothing ages a woman more than when she dresses like a teenager! On the other hand, don’t give up on your individual sense of style by wearing shapeless styles that do nothing for your figure.
You’re much to fabulous for that! What are your tips for looking your best at whatever age you are?
