I've been so busy the last couple of weeks I haven't had a chance to tell you how much I am enjoying my new clothes!! I've learned so much from you in just the few hours that we've spent together that I was even able to buy another sweater and tank when I went in to get some of my stuff altered that are great colors and don't go with black pants!! (They go with the khaki/tobacco colored ones you talked me into buying!). I wore the royal blue long sweater and camisole to a party the other night and someone said "you always have the cutest clothes!". The best part is whenever I go to my closet to get dressed I always have something I love that fits the occasion. I am looking forward to many more shopping trips with you and am so grateful to have found you!!
I always thought I did very well clothes shopping. Sure there were lots of mistakes, but I expected there to be. I have never had so many compliments such as "All of your clothes are so beautiful!" Now, I've heard that many, many times. This week, one of my clients asked me if I was from New York? I've never been asked that before. When I asked her why, she said because I always wear such beautiful clothing and that is not typical in California. That's a huge compliment to you, Ms. Rovner. Even my husband admits that you have done an excellent job with me.
Carolyn, you can chalk me up as another of your success stories! I just returned from the gala event that you dressed me in all winter white and royal purple. I got on the bus with about 75 other attendees - all in predictable black! There was a notable hush as I walked up the aisle. No one said a word to me. I must admit I felt like I was the one out of place. But I kept smiling, and at the event I just boldly walked up to introduce myself to over 2000 strangers. By the end of the night, I had received so many compliments on how I looked...what a great color, I love that jacket...I felt so proud. Thank you again for pushing out of my boring comfort zone into a place of really making a statement! And really helping me feel confident! The CEO even commented!
At work, people I don't even know come up to me and tell me what a great suit I am wearing. I get simple comments from male execs as to a great look that I have now. I now feel more confident in what and how I present myself. I never doubted my competence, but I FEEL better about my appearance, which makes the rest easier. I can walk into my closet and say "which great outfit will I wear today", not "what am I going to wear?"
At first I wondered how someone like Carolyn could truly "rescue" my wardrobe and sense of fashion. She is young, attractive, wears trendy clothes and looks fantastic in them. So, how could she help ME - a 44-year old Mom with 2 kids, drives a minivan, lives in sweats, and thinks that a new belt every 2 years is "accessorizing" and updating my wardrobe?
Well, not only did she clean my closet (with extremely polite commentary; "No, plaid, bell-bottom pants from the 70's with a cable knit sweater and penny loafers may not create the trendy look you are searching for...") but she was able to listen, truly LISTEN to what I hoped to achieve and then translate that into positive changes in my wardrobe. I felt no pressure to buy or choose items that I didn't feel comfortable with, but Carolyn did gently encourage me to consider clothes that I might not have chosen on my own because of past fears about colors, styles, fabrics, etc. The results were a new look - one that I was delighted with - you know, the kind of day where you put on that one outfit and feel so fantastic in it the whole day (complete with compliments all day long) that you wish you could wear it again the next day! The 5 or 6 items that I purchased with her suggestions are by far my favorite, most complimentary, feel-great-in-them-every-time-I-wear-them outfits. And people noticed! I have promised myself that before I will venture into those huge department stores with all those designer labels, sale signs, carry-every-size-but-MY-size with too many colors to choose, I will definitely call Carolyn to be my "reconnaisance" shopper. She will do all the leg work for me, knows what's in style, knows what colors look good on me, what my (real) price range is, and will save me HOURS of frustration shopping.
I am so much happier as a result!
Carolyn has a way of making you feel great about shedding old clothes that should have been pitched long ago but, somehow, you were never able to part with. The experience is thoroughly liberating. She emphasizes how important it is to absolutely love any and all clothes that you buy; if you don't love an item, she won't let you buy it. Carolyn is also really adept at finding clothes that flatter your figure, whatever that shape may be, and educating you about becoming a better shopper for yourself.
“I thought I was fairly good about discarding outdated items, but Carolyn convinced me to get rid of the remaining relics (and there were more of them than I would like to admit). Carolyn made me realize is that I am a fairly small person; buying large, lose clothes in an effort to hide those few extra pounds I don't like doesn't make me look thinner, it just makes me look like a small person in baggy clothes - dowdy! Finally, Carolyn persuaded me to get some color back in my wardrobe. Black isn't always chic and it can be boring. As a result of Carolyn's closet cleaning and a couple of shopping expeditions is that now when I go to my closet I like everything I see and I never think I don't have a thing to wear!"
I felt overwhelmed by my closet until I met Carolyn. Now, I waste no time in the morning getting ready for work. My outfits are color coordinated and easy to identify, not jammed in! I receive compliments every day on my clothes and how color coordinated I am!”
I always thought stylists were only for movies stars or models or extremely wealthy people who needed to look good all the time, but Carolyn proved that wrong. She really does cater to "normal women". I found that she listened to me, my needs and asked about my budget. She helped me create a wardrobe that looks wonderful and is very versatile. She is not afraid to shop anywhere and everywhere from Costco and Target to Saks and Gucci to help you achieve your goals within your budget. She knows when and where you should spend your money on classic items and what "fads" can be found cheaply. I found that using her services, she gave me much greater flexibility in my wardrobe and stopped me from wasting money on items that did not flatter me nor fit into my wardrobe scheme. Her closet cleanout, even though a little intimidating at first, was awesome. I now walk into my closet and can't decide what to wear because I have so many wonderful things. The compliments from friends, family and work colleagues have been tremendous. Her time in my closet is money well spent!”
Carolyn's services were a great mid-life crisis therapy session. I Knew I needed to do something different, but wasn't sure what. Her service precluded me from changing jobs or some other dramatic event -- I just went shopping instead. The results were fantastic and much less stressful.
The closet clean-out service was one of the scariest things I have done in my life (which includes sky diving and other adrenaline-chasing activities). When Carolyn left that day (with all of my clothes sans 1-2 outfits), it was pretty disturbing. I knew that my previous wardrobe didn't draw a lot of comments, but even some of the new stuff I'd just bought went in the same pile as my favorite suits from 10 years ago! However, walking into the fitting room for the replacement session still is my favorite memory of this year! It was like the scene from Pretty Woman when she's shopping at Rodeo Drive -- only the labels were different!!
Carolyn asked me to be her assistant at a Fall Fashion local event in Walnut Creek (at Changes Salon). Her concept was a "before" and "after" look. Since "before" was only about 3-4 months previous, I was surprised beyond belief what it felt like to be in my old clothes / style. My posture changed as well as my mannerisms and self-confidence. When I changed into the "Fall Fashion Look #1," it validated the decision to use C2 Style services. The response from the attendees was overwhelmingly positive.
I didn't know that people like Carolyn even existed -- if a friend hadn't told me about her, and what she could or would do, my closet would be full of Birkenstocks and polypropylene! However, now that Carolyn has entered my life, I can't imagine anything different. Each day is an exciting adventure of "what shall I wear today?" Carolyn's impact was larger than my closet -- I'm taking her to Seattle (as a gift) to help repeat the experience for my sister who is turning 40 this year. Can hardly wait to spread the joy!!
Recently, I met my “arch-enemy” at a trade show. We have really battled it out during fierce negotiation sessions at the board table -- however, at this hallway meeting, all he could comment on was how "sharp" my outfit looked. Coming from a European, this is pretty high praise!!”
At a time when money and time are becoming more and more valuable, your services have the ability to balance them both. While on the surface utilizing your services create a new expense, over time your services are very valuable. I /2 of the time you are able to work with someone and help them purchase items they will be able to wear over time - helping people not make mistakes (waste money), not buy anything at all (god forbid!), and shop effectively by not wandering around on their own and being lulled into buying things they really don’t need!
”Everything you do is news worthy! Working with you is better than any spa day because the results last longer. I feel better about getting dressed in the morning because I'm wearing clothes I like and that fit me. You helped me break some bad habits, like buying clothes that are too big.
I like your bargain shopping approach because that's what I am most comfortable doing.
I would not have tried on anything that was 'out of the box' for me before going with you. Now I can do it with confidence. Shoe shopping included. I need (want) less shoes because I actually like what I have and they go with more outfits. You encouraged me not to buy too many shoes – I love that!
Having you pre-shop prior to our meeting at Broadway Plaza was invaluable because my shopping attention span is about 1.5 hours max. It takes longer than 1.5 hours to look “pulled together”.
I get compliments all of the time - I have more confidence – what could be better!”
