At first I wondered how someone like Carolyn could truly “rescue” my wardrobe and sense of fashion. She is young, attractive, wears trendy clothes and looks fantastic in them. So, how could she help ME – a 44-year old Mom with 2 kids, drives a minivan, lives in sweats, and thinks that a new belt every 2 years is “accessorizing” and updating my wardrobe?
Well, not only did she clean my closet (with extremely polite commentary; “No, plaid, bell-bottom pants from the 70’s with a cable knit sweater and penny loafers may not create the trendy look you are searching for…”) but she was able to listen, truly LISTEN to what I hoped to achieve and then translate that into positive changes in my wardrobe. I felt no pressure to buy or choose items that I didn’t feel comfortable with, but Carolyn did gently encourage me to consider clothes that I might not have chosen on my own because of past fears about colors, styles, fabrics, etc. The results were a new look – one that I was delighted with – you know, the kind of day where you put on that one outfit and feel so fantastic in it the whole day (complete with compliments all day long) that you wish you could wear it again the next day! The 5 or 6 items that I purchased with her suggestions are by far my favorite, most complimentary, feel-great-in-them-every-time-I-wear-them outfits. And people noticed! I have promised myself that before I will venture into those huge department stores with all those designer labels, sale signs, carry-every-size-but-MY-size with too many colors to choose, I will definitely call Carolyn to be my “reconnaisance” shopper. She will do all the leg work for me, knows what’s in style, knows what colors look good on me, what my (real) price range is, and will save me HOURS of frustration shopping.
I am so much happier as a result!
